I look like I was strangled. |
Once it got to this point, my friend urged me to use the insurance that I've been paying for to go to the doctors. I did and got prescribed some anti-fungal stuff which was horrible. It worked for one day and then my neck reverted back to being red and itchy. After whining to my friends, I looked back over my insurance paperwork and found out I could see a specialist without needing a referral.
That began my search for a good dermatologist and I found her through a friend. This doctor came in with a magnifying glass, looked at my neck and said, "You have seborrheic dermatitis." She prescribed some medication and even gave me a few free samples, which I was happy to take. Thus, I have sebo-sebo d as I have decided to call it.
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, seborrheic dermatitis is defined as "a common, inflammatory skin condition that causes flaky, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas such as the scalp or inside the ear. It can occur with or without reddened skin." I would definitely say I had some reddening of the skin around my neck and elbow crease and flaky, white scales on my scalp.
Thanks to the new medications, my neck has cleared up but my scalp is still itchy especially around my temple areas. I need to order my prescription. My free samples recently finished but I just wish that the topical cream and the scalp foam didn't both cost $55 each after my insurance.
Okay, let me stop here before this post gets any longer. Anybody else want to share their seborrheic dermatitis stories?
it's awful, I had it on my scalp and just switching to head and shoulders shampoo and conditioner has cleared it up. I hope you get some relief soon! :)
